The
SAT and ACT are two exams given to college
applicants. They test how well you can reason mathematically, and how well you can
work with words. So in that spirit, we're going to provide math tips, and some
great words. They're designed for everyone, not just college
applicants, so give them a try, whatever your age or interest. The actual math content on these exams is not advanced; the challenge comes from
the fresh and clear thinking required to do the problems. At Newton's Window, we don't
believe there are gimmicks or tricks that can raise your score, and as we'll show you, one
of the best "strategies" for solving these problems is something every high
school student has learned: algebra. In the new Newton's Window Workbook:
Raising Scores without Prep Classes, we show you how you can use the math you've
learned to solve a range of challenging test problems.
The verbal part of these exams tests your ability with
words - plain and simple. There is no substitute for developing a good word
"bank." Parents and kids can begin this early, without need for prep
classes later, just in the normal course of living. (see Suzanne's
article on the SAT) And read. Read. Read. Words are jewels. |
